Nick Vallenhal’s wealthy, eccentric family still attracts controversy for the 1939 murder of his Oscar-winning movie star great-great-grandmother, Belle Amane, and the theft of her priceless Fabergé purse, the Plachuschiy Grifon.

Not surprisingly, the family of the woman he loves wants nothing to do with Nick and the scandal-ridden Vallenhals, so the young hotel executive sets out to win her hand by solving Belle’s murder with a wish token he’s never taken seriously.

Soon he meets the whimsical Wish Giver, who insists he must travel back in time to that fateful New Year’s Eve party in 1939 to witness the crime. Yet Nick quickly learns that Belle’s murder is the least of his concerns, as he’s suddenly tasked with something his peculiar family has schemed for centuries to achieve, and upon which the whole of humanity is dependent.
